This home radar station covers the north-eastern region of Spain. It is based on dump1090-fa and piaware software, and runs on a Raspberry Pi 3+ connected to a USB SDR dongle.
The receiver uses a dedicated resonant antenna tuned to 1090 MHz, with less than one metre of RG58 coaxial cable in order to minimise signal loss and preserve the best possible reception performance.
The station is capable of receiving ADS-B signals, as well as Mode-S and multilateration (MLAT) aircraft data from targets up to approximately 250 nautical miles away. Within this coverage area, it is common to detect traffic from several major airports, including Barcelona (LEBL), Bordeaux (LFBD), Toulouse (LFBO) and Zaragoza (LEZG), the latter often featuring military traffic activity.
The system is also configured to monitor emergency transponder codes, which are automatically highlighted on both the main radar panel and the central radar console of the application.
